Usage guide
Cuprinol Ultra Tough Decking Stain offers a rich semi-transparent colour with a tough durable finish. It has a unique double action formulation which has invisible anti-slip microbeads to make decks safer than untreated wood and an algicide to help protect the film surface from green algae and mould growth.
Cuprinol Ultra Tough Decking Stain is water repellent to help prevent wood cracking and splitting and it is showerproof in less than an hour. It is also suitable for use on other garden wood and is safe with plants and pets when dry.

Ultra Tough Decking Stain is formulated for use on new or existing wooden decks. For maximum performance Ultra Tough Decking Stain should be applied to all sides of wood including the undersides prior to laying decking.

A 2.5L tin is normally sufficient for:
Bare & previously stained wood: 20m² with 2 coats. Absorbent wood, sawn
wood and grooved decking will reduce coverage.

Timber
specifically sold as decking is normally pretreated with wood preserver to
prevent decay. Ensure timber used in ground contact has been pre-treated or
sold specifically for use as decking. Surfaces should be clean, dry and free
from algae and mould. For best results brush to remove dirt and debris and
then clean the surface with Cuprinol
Decking Cleaner. Rinse well and allow to dry. Resinous or oily wood may
affect performance.
New wood: Wipe with white spirit to remove any natural oils/resins.
Weathered wood: Completely remove all grey wood by sanding back to sound wood.
Painted or varnished wood: Sand off or chemically strip existing coatings then treat as bare wood.
Sound woodstained wood: Wash with Cuprinol Decking
Cleaner and water to remove dirt and grease and allow to dry.

Stir thoroughly before use. Final colour will depend upon wood type, previous treatment and the
number of coats applied. Apply 2-3 coats evenly along the grain, avoiding overlaps. When applying subsequent coats, allow each coat to dry fully before recoating. Avoid heavy wear and tear for a few days after application. On previously stained decking, touch up bare areas and allow to dry before finishing with further coats. Do not apply in temperatures below 5C, in damp conditions or if rain is likely before the product has dried. If using more than one can it is advisable to mix them together in a larger container or finish in a corner before starting a new can.

2-6 hours. Drying times can vary depending on the nature of the surface and the weather conditions.

Remove as much stain as possible from brushes and rollers before cleaning with water. Do not use or store in extremes of temperature or wet conditions.

Cuprinol Ultra Tough Decking Stain with invisible anti-slip is not a non-slip product. The anti-slip properties will be reduced if decks become dirty, dusty or leaves and decaying vegetation are allowed to accumulate.Clean the treated deck periodically using an appropriate decking cleaner to avoid any reduction in performance and depending on wear, re-treat with Cuprinol Ultra Tough Decking Stain with anti-slip to maintain the anti-slip performance. When regularly aintained, Cuprinol Ultra Tough Decking Stain with anti-slip achieves 'low potential for slip' category when tested to the UK Slip Resistance Group Guidelines and BS 7976.
Always read the pack instructions carefully before use.
